Season ends with a bang

~~ Rays 8, Yankees 7 ~~

For the Rays, who swept the Yankees and are going to the post-season. They will be playing the Texas Rangers. Yankees will be playing the Detroit Tigers.

This was a crazy game, by the 5th inning the Yankees had scored 7 runs. The Rays didn’t even start scoring until the 8th inning. Then they tied it on the last strike of the ninth inning. Extra innings and a home run to score it. Before this happened, the Baltimore Orioles had come from behind to win their game in the 9th inning. This knocked the Red Sox out of the playoffs. In the National League, Atlanta was 1 strike away from winning their game, and lost it. I’m only sorry about that because my friend Gersh is a Braves fan, other than that, I hate the Braves. Almost as much as I hate the Red Sox.

Mark Teixeira hit home runs 38 and 39, bringing the total of my Harlem RBI donation to $585 for the regular season. I plan to continue making donations into the post season. Andruw Jones also hit a home run.

Nunez has a grand total of 20 errors for the season.

Pretty sure this blog post sucks. But I’m too tired to think right now. See you in the post-season.

~~ Rays 5, Yankees 3 ~~

Yes this is my 400th post on this blog, and it’s a shame it’s for a losing game. Even though these games don’t matter one way or the other for the Yankees, they do matter for the Rays and the Red Sox. The only reason I am not extremely upset is that every time the Rays win, it makes things tougher for the Red Sox. I really don’t want the Red Sox in the playoffs.

Another thing that is a shame is that Colon didn’t get the win. He held the Rays to 2 runs, then Soriano gave up 3 runs in the 7th. I may have tolerated Soriano when he was pitching good, but I never really warmed to him. But Bartolo I liked.

Lions and antelopes

~~ Rays 5, Yankees 2 ~~

It’s been said, I don’t know who said it, that the antelope runs for its life, while the lion runs merely for his supper. What does this have to do with baseball? The Yankees are AL East champions, they have home field advantage, there is essentially, nothing left to clinch. Right now they are just playing to win games simply to win. The Rays are fighting for a playoff spot, their ‘life’. That could be a good thing or a bad thing. For the Rays tonight, they played hard and won. For the Boston Red Sox, well need I say more?

It’s never a good thing to lose, but its not always a bad thing. If this loss knocks the Red Sox out of the playoffs, in my opinion that makes this loss, not a bad thing.

Cano hit a home run, that’s always a good thing. He probably won’t get 30 home runs this season, but he has 28 and 118 RBI. MVP? I don’t know, I don’t think so.

No such thing as a sure thing in baseball

~~ Red Sox 7, Yankees 4 ~~

With Nova pitching versus Lackey, I was sure we’d win it. Then when the Yankees jumped ahead with 3 runs, I was doubly sure the Yankees would win. Even when they went ahead in the 7th, I was still sure Yanks would win, it was only one run and in the bottom of the 7th the Yankees tied it up. So no problem right? RIGHT?

Seven innings later that bad boy Jacoby hits a 3 run home run off Scott Proctor. I don’t know why he was pitching.

Once again there were bad calls against the Yankees. You would think they would get the edge since it is their stadium. Of course you never know if it affected the outcome of the game. It did affect Swisher’s numbers. What was cute was the last time, Swish was hot so Joe comes running out and Cano wraps his arm around Swish’s shoulder and drags him away. Couldn’t afford to lose a player, then Joe got thrown out.

Even though I really wanted the Yankees to sweep the Sox, (possibly out of the post season) Yankees are still number one. This Saturday will still be me and Kasey’s first trip to the post season. So I’m trying not to put too much energy into being angry about this.

Another double-header because of the stupid freaking rain!

~~ Yankees 6, Red Sox 2 ~~

The pitchers for the first game of this double-header are Wakefield for the Red Sox and A.J. Burnett for NYY. Someone shoot me now.

Gardner and Jeter bunted, both came around to score. Then in the third inning Jorge hits a two run home run, 4-0 Yankees. And the Rays are leading in their game. Since this won’t be posted until after the game and no one is here to read it, “Please don’t melt down, implode, fall apart, or anything else. OK AJ? Please hold it together for your devoted fan (I might be the only one left).”

Oh Captain! My captain. And no, I don’t think he did touch home plate. Until he reached back and tagged AFTER he was called safe. I almost feel sorry for Tim Wakefield, almost.

Hate Ellsbury, all three hits have come off Ellsbury. If it wasn’t for him AJ would have a no-hitter. I will hate him more if he’s gets MVP instead of a Yankee.

And with that hit Derek is now hitting 300 and the Yankees lead 6-2.

Guess Big Sloppy was tired of walking. AJ doesn’t usually melt down this late in the game does he? OH NICE PLAY! Good fielding by Laird and AJ, 3-6-1 double-play.

AJ pitched into the 8th, D-Rob came in to pitch to Ellsbury, who hit two home runs off AJ, and struck him out. Then D-Rob pitched a scoreless ninth saving Mo and Soriano for tonight’s game if needed.

Red Sox are slip sliding away

~~ Yankees 9, Red Sox 1 ~~

This is probably the last regular season game I will be at. I have tickets for Game 2 of the ALDS, so I am hoping the Yankees get home field advantage.

Garcia pitched 6 innings of shut-out baseball. This was such a fun game to be at. I always worry when I go to Yankees vs Red Sox because my record is not good. More games lost by the Yankees then won. In fact, this might be the first win thus breaking my streak. Raul Valdes gave up the only run and when he did, the Red Sox fans cheered like it was the go ahead run. People, they are still down 8 runs.

Going into the bottom of the second the Red Sox had 0 runs, 1 hit. When Cano got a single I thought, Oh good we’re even now. Then the next two batters got on, all of a sudden it was bases loaded, one out. Jesus Montero comes up to bat. I wondered if he would get his first major league grand slam, he didn’t, he did get a RBI, the first of the game. Russell Martin then hits a single to left field, Carl Crawford bobbles it, the ball kind of just popped out of his glove, 2 more runs. Then the Captain comes up to bat, my man the captain, hits home run number 6, to bring the total of runs in the inning to 6. Mark struck out, but the Yankee bats were not done. In the bottom of the third Jesus Montero hit a two run double and Jon Lester was done. Jesus Montero >> Jon Lester

The Yankees last run of the game was a home run, hit by Jesus Montero.

Since last nights game was rained out tomorrow is a day night double header. I’ll see you then.

Seems they partied too hard last night

~~ Rays 15, Yankees 8 ~~

At the beginning of the season I promised to write a post for every game, it has proved to be harder then I originally thought it would be. Mainly because of time and since I am trying to not copy other posts or other people’s posts, but I have managed to stay the course.

With the win of last nights game with Rays the Yankees are now AL East Champions. I would like to say to all the ESPN analysts, the ones listed in the MLB Preview 2011, the ones that said the Red Sox would win the division, which would be all of them, that YOU WERE WRONG!!

Curtis Granderson has 41 home runs, a personal record for him. Mark has 37, I promised $15 per home run and I have also kept up with that, although I am a little behind in payment, but not by much.

Well I hope the Yankees recover from celebrating the Division win before they have to play the Sox. I want home field advantage because I have tickets for game 2, which will be October 1 if the Yankees have home field advantage.

Game 2 ~ Wednesday, September 21, 2011

~~ Yankees 4, Rays 2 ~~

Robinson Cano homered early, but it was Jorge Posada’s eighth-inning, two-run single that sent the Yankees to a sweep of the doubleheader with the Rays and clinched the AL East crown for the Bronx Bombers.

Sabathia left the game score was tied, bases loaded, one out, with one pitch Dave Robertson ends the inning, double play. CC said after the game, “If you have to leave with bases loaded, that’s the guy you want to come in after you.” He didn’t get win number 20, but the Yankees won the division.

~~ Yankees 4, Rays 2 ~~

Eduardo Nunez hit a game-tying homer in the eighth and Robinson Cano put the Yanks up with a two-run double as New York clinched a postseason spot — and dealt Tampa Bay a Wild Card blow — with a win in Game 1 of its doubleheader with the Rays.

The Yankees are playing double headers to make up for rained out games. In this first game the Yankees used a lot of pitchers, including Mo who now has 44 saves for this year and 603 total. But with this win the Yankees are going to the postseason.

Snoopy is a Yankee fan, and loves MO!!

~~ Yankees 5, Rays 0 ~~

It was plush Snoopy night! First we went to have dinner before the game, stadium food doesn’t agree with Kasey’s stomach. The stadium was decorated with Mo’s achievement.

Ivan pitched 7.2 innings of shut out ball, just 6 hits, no runs. Logan, no hits, no runs. Ayala, no hits, no runs. When he left and got an ovation, Kasey sent me a text “Why are they cheering”

“Ivan is leaving”

“Is he OK or just tired”

Cell phones are great.

Besides Snoopy plush dolls, they were also selling Mo memorabilia. We got a shirt for Kasey’s friend Jean and we each got pins. Snoopy is wearing Kasey’s. I put mine on my jacket.

We had a great time, Teixeira caught a line drive, then tagged the runner going back to 1st, I tweeted “Oh what a play by Teixeira!” The best part was not having a 2 hour ride home.
