Tampa Bay Rays at NYY ~ Friday, August 12, 2011

~~ Rays 5, Yankees 1 ~~

What do Casey Kotchman, Kelly Shoppach, Johnny Damon, Elliot Johnson and Evan Longoria have in common? Besides all playing for the Rays, they also each hit a home run off CC this game, making this his second loss in a row and win #10 for David Price. Who despite having an awesome twitter, is now on my list.

Perfection

~~ Yankees 5, Rays 4 ~~

It was the perfect day for a ball game. At his first at bat Derek got career hit 2,999, his second at-bat was career hit 3,000, a home run. Derek went 5-5 making his performance for the day perfect, the fan who caught the ball returned it to Derek because, “It was his moment, his accomplishment. I didn’t want to take anything away from him today.” He got to meet Derek and got some nice gifts from the Yankees. David Price got stung. Overall, the Rays players were polite and clapped at his accomplishment. The first baseman even lifted his cap as Derek ran by. Then he concentrated on winning the game. Which wasn’t easy. But there again he was perfect, bringing in the winning run with his 5th hit of the game. Perfection.

A.J. gave up 3 runs. Pitched 5.2 innings, then Logan came in, A.J. left the game with the Yankees in the lead, and Logan did his job and the Yankees were still ahead the top of the 8th, then D-Rob comes in and blows the lead, lets the Rays score a run. So A.J. loses the win, David Robertson blows the save, but because the Yankees scored the winning run in the bottom of the 8th, he gets the win! Sometimes I don’t understand baseball, and David Robertson in a bum (not really, love the little cutie pie, just wish he would come in and just get the outs, no fooling around and letting Johnny Damon get a triple). Mariano picks up save number 22.

In between at bats, we were being entertained by the most adorable little 18 month old in front of us. He was having a great time hanging out with his family, eating chicken and fries, offering it to people, after he took a bite. Kasey was watching him and said: “He’s well behaved, social and speaks. He doesn’t need services!” I thought about bringing him home, but his family was watching just a little to closely.

~~Yankees 9, Tigers 5~~

The Tigers were rowdy tonight. Apparently in the last play of Monday’s game (which we lost) Gardner slide into the 2nd baseman and now he is on the D.L. (the Tiger’s player, not Gardner). Tonight, after a scoreless first inning by the Tigers, Gardner is in the lead-off spot and gets hit. Intentional? Retaliation? Some say yes, some say no. Some say Gardner’s slide was ‘dirty’, some say it was the SS fault because of the way he threw the ball. When asked Gardner said, “I don’t know, I don’t care. They want to put me on base that’s fine with me as long as I don’t get hurt.”

Teixeira made them pay. With Gardner still on base he hit a home run. Then Cano hit a home run. 0-3 Yankees. Then Cabrera of the Tigers hit a home run and at his second at bat, another home run. The Yankees struck back with 3 runs in the 4th bring the score to 2-6 Yankees. It takes a lot to tame kittens, especially tiger cubs. They came back with a 2 run homer. That was it for Moseley. Curtis got one of the runs back with his own home run. That made it 3 home runs for the Yankees and 3 for the Tigers. 4-7 Yankees.

Moseley pitched all right. But coming out early meant a lot of work for the bull pen, Joba, Logan, Wood, Gaudin, D-Rob and Mo all pitched. Wood had to get out a bases loaded, 1 out and Cabrera coming up the 3rd next pitcher. A home run hitter coming up with bases loaded? No, just no. He struck out the next two hitters. D-Rob had to do the same thing, only in his case Gaudin had loaded the bases. He looked so nervous, and when he threw the ball to Mark for the last out, after only giving up one run, he looked so happy. This inning started with Cabrera coming up to bat and getting plunked by Gaudin. That’s when things started to get ugly. The Tiger’s manager came out and started yelling, about what I don’t know. He wouldn’t answer any questions after the game. Then Jeter was walked, and one of the balls went behind his back.

Was it intentional on Gaudin’s part? I don’t think so. Yankees were up by 5 runs, so they had already proved their point, and I don’t think Gaudin is a good enough pitcher to intentionally hit someone like that. Oh and that nice Johnny Damon? Who got such a nice ovation, and told Michael Kay how much better New York is then Boston, he was one of the ones saying Brett’s slide was dirty. Maybe he is little bitter.

This post was possible because I started keeping score. These are my score sheets. This first one is for Detroit. Noticed how I colored in the boxes with brown pencil? That’s because I don’t like the Tigers and I don’t like brown.

This one is for the Yankees. Notice the blue boxes? And the darker colored boxes are purple, that is where the home runs are. Because I like blue and I love purple. I love my Yankees and I especially love home runs.

Monday, August 16, 2010 ~ Yankees, its time to WAKE UP!

~~Tigers 3, Yankees 1~~

This was sad, truly sad. Javier was not pitching great, giving up a base hit then a home run in the second inning, by the fourth inning his pitch count was up to 106 and he was out of there, but the offense was horrible. The only run was a gift, a bases loaded walk.

Sergio Mitre and Kerry Wood pitched (together) 4 scoreless innings. Then Joba came in for the ninth and gave up a home run, he then proceeded to strike out the next two batters. You can’t really put all the blame on Joba, after all, Miguel Cabrera is a home run hitter, (28 for the season? Yeah I guess so) and it really didn’t affect the outcome of the game. But I still hate him.

This was Johnny Damon’s first game in the Bronx as a Tiger, he got a nice ovation, people had signs and were wearing his jersey. It amuses me, Javier was booed because he gave up a run in 2004, and the player who hit the home run, gets a warm welcome from these same fans.

And I discovered another use for scoring. When you don’t want to watch the game, cause your team is suckinglosing, you can color in the boxes on the score-sheet and therefore not look at the T.V.

7/22 NY Yankees 10 vs Kansas City Royals 4 ~ The march to 600 continues

Alex Rodriguez is now one home run closer to 600. I was getting my nails done so I had missed most of the game. I came home to a score of 5-4 Yankees. So I got to see the home run by Alex, I never knew he loved me, but he must cause he waited for me to get home to hit his home run. I missed the inside the park home run by Derek, Jorge’s ‘phantom tag’ and Gardner’s amazing throws from left field (Johnny Damon couldn’t do that :p). Sado did make some pretty bad throws, Joba came in for the 8th inning, he loaded up the bases, then got out without any runs. And it was a 4 out inning. Posada made a good throw this time to Alex, and the runner was tagged, but the umpire called him safe. This doesn’t mean I like Joba now, but he did his job, and I’ll take it. Time of the game: 3:22. Attendance: 47,484.

7/5 NY Yankees 3 @ Oakland Athletics 1 ~ Good Start, good Mark

Good start to the beginning of the series considering how the Yankees don’t normally do well their first game of a West coast road trip. They scored early, Javy pitched great with great offensive support, 7IP, 3H, 1R. 2 great catches by the two Curtis, diving catching. So a big raspberry to the jerks that say Curtis does not play like a Yankee, I would like to see Johnny Damon make a running diving catch like he did. Then Mark hit a home run in the sixth inning.

Boston lost to Tampa Bay, so now Tampa Bay is in 2nd place, 2 games behind us, Boston is 2.5 games behind us.

I know I was making a big deal about Mark Teixeira being an All-Star, well he’s not going and I am not really upset about it. He has been twice and he is not exactly at the end of his career, so he will have a choice to go again. Besides, this way he can spend some time with his pregnant wife and his kids.

One last thing, vote for Swish to go to the All-Star game, this time I have people agreeing with me! Click on his picture!

5/12 NY Yankees 0 @ Detroit Tigers 2

I ended my last post with an exception to my “I hate the Tigers” statement. Today, I take it back. He robbed my Derek of a hit.

Javier Vasquez started and pitched through 7 innings. Not perfect, but only gave up the 2 runs. It is a shame he takes the loss, but that is how it is. He pitched good, but the offense was not there. I had a sore throat so I stayed home from work. I almost said a wasted sick day, but not having to get up and go to work is always worth it.
Since this is a four game series losing two games is not a loss of the series, but they also can’t count it as a win, at best it will be a tie. They are still doing good in the standings. I can’t really think of anything else to say so I will just shut up now.

5/10 NY Yankees 4 @ Detroit Tigers 5

Yes the Yankees have now lost two in a row and are 21-10, .677 and are 1 game behind Tampa Bay. Johnny Damon struck out his first at bat, Mark Teixeira hit a home run, then so did Johnny. I was pretty sure that Twitter would light up with comments, “We should never have traded Johnny!” Which the Yankees didn’t really, he was a free agent and the Yankees wouldn’t meet his price. If it did, I didn’t see it, of course I was at the gym and watching the game on the T.V., not paying attention to Twitter.

The Yankees were behind the whole game, they rallied, had a few times with runners in scoring position, just couldn’t get it together. Considering they played late last night, got in to Detroit at 4 am this morning, I think they played rather well. Lets see how they do tomorrow on a full night’s rest.

In the meantime, I leave you with this thought, I hate the Tigers (except for the cute Tiger with the 18 on his jersey).

Once again …

No, I am not talking about the rain washing out Andy Pettitte’s pitching, I am talking about how I never fail to amaze myself with my stupidity, or maybe if you are being kind you could say carelessness.

I renewed my membership in the Yankee’s Universe. They very cheerfully took my money and sent me a new membership card, a very nice one with the NYY 2009 World Series Championship logo on it, like the patch on my jacket. And I have already lost it. I searched my purse, my bedroom, every place I could think I might have left it and can’t find it. So I sent an e-mail to the membership office, I hope they will send me a new one, hopefully before Kasey finds out I lost it.

The game today was televised, not that I could watch it since I had to go to church, not that it mattered since the game was cancelled due to rain.

Here’s the press release from the Yankees:

TODAY’S YANKEES GAME VS. DETROIT AT STEINBRENNER FIELD CANCELED DUE TO RAIN

Today’s game between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers at George M. Steinbrenner Field has been canceled due to rain. The game will not be rescheduled, but tickets can be refunded.

Please note that: Refunds will be issued in the same method of payment used at the time of purchase, and refunds will not be accepted after 12/31/10.

All refund information is available at www.steinbrennerfield.com.

There was enough time for Johnny Damon to have an at bat and get an ovation for which he tipped his batting helmet. Wait, why is he in a Tiger’s uniform? Oh that’s right, cause Cashman is an idiot.

Damaso Marte started the game, probably because of the the rain forecast. Someone tweeted, ‘Joba is really pissed’

Not much more to say. Still waiting for the regular season to begin, only a week now. YAY!
