1 down, 10 to go

~~ Yankees 9, Tigers 3 ~~

This game started tied at 1-1, that’s because of the rain out yesterday and since it’s post season, the game is picked up where it left off, not restarted. Nova was on the mound for the Yankees and pitched into the 9th inning. No run ball. Ayala gave up the only runs today. Nova was considered as pitching ‘in relief’ since CC started the game yesterday. The two runs Ayala gave up were charged to Nova, but in my head they were his fault. Mo came in for the final out.

Robinson Cano connected for his team’s first postseason grand slam in nearly 12 years and Ivan Nova fired 6 1/3 sterling innings in his postseason debut, leading the Yankees to a 9-3 victory over the Tigers in Game 1 of the American League Division Series on Saturday.

The grand slam came an inning after a ball that bounced off the top of the wall and ended back in the field was ruled a double. This was a no-doubter, landing in the 2nd tier of seats.

The Yankees are now 10 wins away from another World Series victory. Kasey keeps telling me she wants a parade. And tomorrow is my first post-season game. Can’t wait.

Snoopy is a Yankee fan, and loves MO!!

~~ Yankees 5, Rays 0 ~~

It was plush Snoopy night! First we went to have dinner before the game, stadium food doesn’t agree with Kasey’s stomach. The stadium was decorated with Mo’s achievement.

Ivan pitched 7.2 innings of shut out ball, just 6 hits, no runs. Logan, no hits, no runs. Ayala, no hits, no runs. When he left and got an ovation, Kasey sent me a text “Why are they cheering”

“Ivan is leaving”

“Is he OK or just tired”

Cell phones are great.

Besides Snoopy plush dolls, they were also selling Mo memorabilia. We got a shirt for Kasey’s friend Jean and we each got pins. Snoopy is wearing Kasey’s. I put mine on my jacket.

We had a great time, Teixeira caught a line drive, then tagged the runner going back to 1st, I tweeted “Oh what a play by Teixeira!” The best part was not having a 2 hour ride home.

Another corny title

~~ Blue Jays 3, Yankees 0 ~~

This has been a subject in my blog before, I know how hard it is to come up with interesting titles, but these guys are professionals!

Blue Jays take to the air, fly by Yanks in finale

So no sweep for the Yankees, Garcia only lasted 4.2 innings and gave up all three runs. The rest of the pitchers, Laffey, Ayala, Proctor, Valdes, and Kontos kept the Jays to the three, unfortunately the Yankees didn’t score any runs.

Starting to really hate birds, Canadian birds

~~ Blue Jays 5, Yankees 4 ~~

CC was not sharp, only lasing 5.2 innings, so Ayala, Soriano, D-Rob, Logan and Wade had to finish the game. It was not pretty. Many times 4 runs is enough to win, but not this day.

Chavez hit his second home run of the season.

Yankees 9, Mariners 3 ~ Monday, September 12, 2011

~~ Yankees 9, mariners 3 ~~

Yay for run support for Phil Hughes. He pitched pretty well, giving up 1 run in 6 innings pitched while Scott Proctor (who I know nothing about except he has a 6.49 ERA) gave up 2 runs in 2 innings. Then Ayala pitched the ninth. No Mo tonight.

Mark and Chris Dickerson hit home runs, which reminds me I need to update my page and send Harlem RBI some more money. Chris Dickerson also stole a base.

West Coast games ~ Yawn!

~~ Angels 2, Yankees 1 ~~

Although, I’m sure I’m not as tired as the Yankees who are playing their third game in 3 different ball parks in 2 time zones in 3 days. And people say the Yankees has an easy schedule! I’d like to show those people the difference between easy and hard, just saying.

Now the game is over and Colon pitched brilliantly, yes brilliantly I say, and then the bull pen let him down. No not my David, he also pitched brilliantly, I mean those bums Laffey and Ayala, I just want to say, a WALK OFF for the Angels is not acceptable. Next game we must do better.

The Yankees make history, again

~~ Yankees 22, Athletics 9 ~~

The score was 7-2 in favor of Oakland and I was disgusted, leaving work and muttering to myself, saying I wasn’t going to watch the game, wasn’t going to watch the Yankees get swept by the A’s, the Yankees paid me back for being a bad fan. I say I was a bad fan because even when I saw the score was 7-6 I thought, “So they’re going to lose by one run AGAIN!” I turned the game on anyway, so I guess I’m not a terrible fan, to see Russell Martin walking up to the plate with the bases loaded. I got that feeling I get, like the time I was sitting in the stands and Alex walked up to the plate, stuck at home run 599. Or when Teixeira was walked and Alex comes up with bases loaded. Martin hits a grand slam. Second of the game.

I’m not going to say Phil was terrible, or awful, or really really bad. I’ll just say the bullpen and the home runs saved his ass. You can infer what you want from that statement. The bullpen kept the A’s from scoring any more runs until the 8th inning, then it was a “Whee! We have twice as many runs as you!” pitch, because after the home run, Luis Ayala strikes out the next two batters. Then in the ninth the A’s got another run so that was 9 to the Yankees bajillion runs.

But in the bottom of the 9th, the A’s loaded the bases again, for the 37th time (I might be exaggerating), Brett singles bringing in a run (bases are still loaded), Derek Jeter strikes out (bases are still loaded), Curtis Granderson comes up to bat, hits Grand Slam #3 of the day. With one swing he makes history. Then Andruw Jones comes up to hit the last home run of the game.

There will still be people who tell you the Yankees leave a lot of men on base, I will repeat what I have said here before, they leave a lot of men on base because they get a lot of men on base. The A’s walking 13 batters certainly helped, but if the bases hadn’t been loaded up as many times as they were, the Yankees wouldn’t have had the opportunity to hit 3 grand slams.

Another thing that has never been seen before is Jorge Posada playing 2nd base in the big leagues. He got the last ground ball and bulleted it over to Swisher, who caught it and fell over, all the while keeping his foot on the bag.

In summary: Martin hit 2 HR (1 grand slam), Cano hit 1 (grand slam), Granderson hit 1 (grand slam), and Jones hit 1. 14 runs by way of evil home runs.

Granderson is now over 100 RBI.

NYY at Minnesota ~ Saturday, August 20, 2011

~~ Twins 9, Yankees 4 ~~

What can I say about AJ Burnett except words that can’t be printed in a family newspaper, his line tonight was 1.2 innings pitched, 5H, 7R, 3BB, 1SO, to fully illustrate how poorly his night went, he threw 61 pitches in those 1 and 2/3 innings. Laffey pitched 3 innings and threw 50 pitches. Laffey also gave up the other two runs, so he didn’t pitch well, but this was his first time pitching for the Yankees and he’s not one of the Yankees starting pitchers. I’m starting to agree with the people who want to kidnap AJ and send him far away.

You could argue that he gets no run support, and in a sense that is true, but can you imagine how the batters feel when they watch their starting pitcher throwing batting practice? During the game and to the other team? Unfortunately, I think we are stuck with AJ for the time being. There is this little thing called a contract.

Los Angeles Angels at NY ~ Wednesday, August 10, 2011

~~ Angels 3, Yankees 9 ~~

This is what I like to see, 9 hits, 9 runs. You are probably tired of hearing this but, Champagne Super NOVA! 8 hits and 3 runs over 6 innings, Soriano and Ayala doing their jobs and with 6 runs up, not a save situation, Mo gets the night off. It was the Major League debut of Garrett Richards, his first game was a loss. I would feel sorry for him, but that’s life in the big leagues.

Curtis ‘not a home run hitter’ Granderson hit two home runs. That makes 31 for this season and Cano hit number 19.
