Tied for first place

~~Yankees 7, Orioles 4~~

The Baltimore Orioles came into this game with a 6-3 record and the Yankees had a 5-4 record. Now they are tied and tomorrow is the last Baltimore vs. New York Yankee game of this series. After which they will be tied no more. And while I am making effing obvious statements, the Red Sox are in last place, in the Division, in the League and in the MLB. Right now they have the worst record in baseball. I am living in the moment, shoot me.

A.J. pitched 6-⅓ innings giving up 4 runs, and he got a nice ovation for his work and his 3rd win of the season. D-Rob, Soriano and Mo pitched scoreless innings, this makes save No. 5 (564) for the Sandman. Yes he is the best closer in baseball.

So much for defense, offensively the Yankees scored 7 runs, two off a home run by Alex in the 1st and one from a 5th inning home run by Jorge. They are now tied for home runs for this season. Every Yankee except Curtis got a hit tonight. Don’t worry Curtis, Sarah still loves you, and you will turn it around.

Speaking of the Yankees, they are the winningest team. That’s not a real word, at least my spell checker doesn’t think so. If you check the numbers, they don’t have the most games won, that record goes to the the San Francisco Giants with 10,441, of course they have been around longer then the Yankees, of teams formed in 1901, the Yankees do have the most games won with 9,675, the team (of teams formed in 1901) that is number 2? No big surprise there, the Boston Red Sox.

Looking at the Win-Lose Percentage, the Yankees are again number 1 with .568, the Boston Red Sox . . . are not number 2, they are number 5 on this list. I started playing around with the numbers, I was curious if there was another stat that would correspond with the order created by the W-L%. I took the number of runs allowed and divided by the number of runs scored. The Yankees were again in 1st place with a 0.862%, the Boston Red Sox were again #5 with 0.965%. The teams didn’t match up perfectly, but it was the closest I found. So there you have it, if you consistently score more runs then you allow, you will be a winning team.

6/25 NY Yankees 2 @ L.A. Dodgers 1 ~ Opening of the Series

An emotional game, with a shout out at the end, coming from Grumpy Joe Torre and Donny Baseball, but a win for the Yankees, CC pitched 8 innings, then Mo comes in and strikes out, one, two, three, game over. With that the last batter tossed his bat and helmet down, which the umpire didn’t like.

Alex hit another home run and I have updated my counter. He also scored the other run of the game. Since I am tired and can’t think of anything to say, I am just going to post the standings for now and hopefully my brain will back in gear tomorrow.

New York           46- 27           .630           –
Boston                 44- 30           .595         2.5
Tampa Bay         43- 30           .589         3.0
Toronto               39- 35           .527         7.5
Baltimore            21- 52           .288       25.0

5/26 NY Yankees 3 @ Minnesota Twins 2 ~ sad Bella :'(

Started with Tuesday’s game and 6 scoreless innings, then a rain delay, then a suspended game. Since they played x number of innings, which I don’t know the cut off number the game was just picked up and finished. Derek Jeter hit a home run his first at bat. It turned out to be a game winning home run. I wasn’t watching, I was on the train.

In the second game Andy Pettitte pitched a ‘gem’ and Nick Swisher hit a home run. I was also not watching, I was at church. This is getting depressing, I might have to stop watching.
So now the Yankees are 28-18, .609 and the next game they play is on May 27 at Minnesota, 8:10P
If I seem a little subdued, its because my friend’s husband is an idiot. He was supposed to make a reservation for her and I to spend tomorrow night in the city. He made the reservation for tonight, which I didn’t realize until I looked at the e-mail tonight when I got it to put in my bag. The reason I’m so piZZed? The rooms are being paid for with my credit card, so now I have two nights in a Manhattan hotel charged on my credit card when we are only staying one night. That is if the stupid girl got my information right, I am waiting for the e-mail confirmation.
I have to take partial responsibility for not checking it right away. But then, Kasey should have checked it too. I don’t know whether to laugh, cry, shoot him or myself. If there are no more blog posts, you’ll know I decided on shooting someone.

5/13 NY Yankees 0 @ Detroit Tigers 6

So they lost big deal, nobody panic. Not saying I am happy about it, but it is only the second series they have lost and their standing are respectable. 22-12, .647(tied for second in the league, not the division, the league), 2 games behind. If the playoffs were right now they would be in them. My idiot co-worker (the one who calls me a “fake” Yankee fan) says, “I don’t want them to be the wildcard”, Dude, get a grip, they have only played 34 games. Plenty of time for them to move into first place.

Today’s game was kind of depressing because the pitching was not there, and the bats were not there. But they are coming home, probably already home by now, they got thehell out of Detroit and will not be going back. I don’t think any of them want to. Except maybe Curtis.
