Silent bats

It was not the best time I have ever had at the ball park, however it was better than a day at work.

TexasvsNYY

~~ Rangers 2, Yankees 0 ~~

The day started with Kasey and me fighting over tickets. Both of us wanted D-Rob, she won. At Yankees Stadium it was sunscreen day so we got free packets of sunscreen and a skin check from a dermatologist. All the doctor who checked me said was I had pretty legs. Than after that I didn’t put on the sunscreen and ended up with a sunburn. In my defense, we weren’t sitting in the sun, but there must have been enough of a reflection off the concrete and I got burned.

The Replacement Yankees were playing, besides Phil Hughes pitching, Robbie playing third, Gardner and Ichiro in the outfield, I can’t tell you who was playing.

We saw a stellar pitching performance. Phil only gave up 4 hits and 2 runs. Actually we saw two stellar pitching performances, the better one by Derek Holland. What we didn’t see was any defensive output by the Yankees. It was like they had forgotten how to swing a bat. In fact the Yankees didn’t even drive up his pitch count, which is one of their strengths, drive up pitch counts, get into the bullpen, Holland threw 92 pitches. It was a shut-out, not a no-hitter but just as bad.

Game 78
Yankees 42-36 (0.538)

The plan for today is ….

Or actually what I hope happens today is the Yankees win (of course!) and Texas wins, and Baltimore loses.

We shall see if that actually happens. The Yankees don’t have to do an exact repeat of last night, Andy just need to be dominant, and Ricky needs to not be good.

The last day for Texas

And we’re going for the sweep! You know that didn’t happen, but I was at this game and if would have been a bad day if the Yankees had won, since they lost it was a horrible day.

~~ Rangers 10, Yankees 6 ~~

First off it was hot and muggy, even with my wet towel around my neck I was miserable. I’m too short for these seats and my legs fell asleep, and the guy next to me was drunk, and since he was drunk he was ignoring all the rules about others personal space, because of this I wasn’t able to shift around in my seat, another reason my legs fell asleep. UGH. Then the guy behind me, knew everything one could possibly know about baseball, he could do a much better job then Girardi, in fact if he was managing the team, they would have won 118 games this year! That’s why he’s working for the Yankees instead of watching the game. Oh wait, he is watching the game.

Rain, Rain, GO AWAY

Another rain delay, this time I was not in the Audi club, I was walking around the stadium with Sarah and not finding any place to sit. I don’t know how Andy and P. dwelt with it. Our seats were also in the bleachers which meant they were wet. We had these beach mats (promotional) and the kids put one down to sit on. However, they did not dry the seats first so we got wet butts. I would have preferred to go to Tuesday’s game, the almost no-hitter, but didn’t have tickets.

~~ Yankees 3, Rangers 2 ~~

The Yankees scored all three runs in the 3rd inning, no home runs, not that I’m counting or anything. When Josh Hamilton hit his home run in the 4th inning the guys behind me complained about Freddy. Oh excuse me, a solo shot by Josh Hamilton, who has hit 30 home runs this season and you are blaming Freddy? Then when Hamilton hit his second home run in the 6th inning, they cursed out Freddy. I almost punched them. He hits home runs, those two runs were the only runs Texas got that night, and you’re calling Freddy names? How about the fact that he didn’t let anyone get on base before the home run? How about the fact that the Yankees WERE NOT HITTING THE BALL? Idiots like that make me rage.

As it turned out, the Yankees didn’t need anymore than 3 runs thanks to Boone, David and Rafael not giving up any runs. And now Josh can say, “Hey, I finally hit a home run in Yankee Stadium! Two in fact.” The kids left early, they had to catch a train home before midnight. I stayed until the last out, with my wet butt and got to take a wet beach thingy home.

Season ends with a bang

~~ Rays 8, Yankees 7 ~~

For the Rays, who swept the Yankees and are going to the post-season. They will be playing the Texas Rangers. Yankees will be playing the Detroit Tigers.

This was a crazy game, by the 5th inning the Yankees had scored 7 runs. The Rays didn’t even start scoring until the 8th inning. Then they tied it on the last strike of the ninth inning. Extra innings and a home run to score it. Before this happened, the Baltimore Orioles had come from behind to win their game in the 9th inning. This knocked the Red Sox out of the playoffs. In the National League, Atlanta was 1 strike away from winning their game, and lost it. I’m only sorry about that because my friend Gersh is a Braves fan, other than that, I hate the Braves. Almost as much as I hate the Red Sox.

Mark Teixeira hit home runs 38 and 39, bringing the total of my Harlem RBI donation to $585 for the regular season. I plan to continue making donations into the post season. Andruw Jones also hit a home run.

Nunez has a grand total of 20 errors for the season.

Pretty sure this blog post sucks. But I’m too tired to think right now. See you in the post-season.

This is how we want it to end ~ Thursday, June 16, 2011

~~ Yankees 3, Rangers 2 ~~

Yankees have won another series. This time with a bunch of home runs. Well not in this game. But we did get another corny headline: “Broom for three: Gardner, Yanks sweep Rangers”. We also got a look at a new pitcher, Brian Gordon, who despite not getting the win made a good first impression, holding the Rangers to 2 runs. Unfortunately, the Yankees were not getting the hits. C.J. Wilson was doing his job for the Rangers.

So there was free baseball in the Bronx, this was definitely a hard won win with the game going to 12 innings.

6 up, 6 down for Cory Wade

Bottom of the 12th: Granderson up, Base hit to right field
Mark Teixeira, fly out to left field, out #1
Robinson Cano, hit by pitch, takes first base, Granderson to second base
Brett Gardner, (and Sarah, listening to the radio, said, “Brett just hit the ball” and he always listens)
base hit, Granderson scores.

Yankees win. Time for pie. ๐Ÿ™‚ On to the Cubs for Interleague road trip!

Lather, Rinse, Repeat ~ Wednesday, June 15, 2011

~~ Yankees 12, Rangers 4 ~~

No you are not seeing things, the score from this game and Tuesday’s game are exactly the same. And yes, there is another corny headline: “Tex’s two-step leads Yankees past Rangers”. Nick Swisher actually came up with the Texas Two-step line last season. Mark hit two home runs, so now Mark, Curtis and Jose Bautista lead the league with 21 home runs each.

The big surprise however was not that Teixeira hit two home runs against his former team. It was that Nunez and Pena each hit home runs. In total there were 5 home runs by the Yankees in this game. Stolen bases by Cano, Cervelli and A-Rod, two by Nunez (both in the same inning). Nice run support for Nova who although not having his ‘best stuff’, kept the Rangers to 4 runs.

We also got a look at a couple of new pitchers on the Yankee roster, Cory Wade and Jeff Marquez. Both pitched scoreless innings.

Sometimes, the headlines are pretty funny ~ Tuesday, June 14, 2011

~~ Yankees 12, Rangers 4 ~~

This this one: “Job well done: Yanks solve righty Ogando”. I don’t know if it’s supposed to be a play on words, I’m a little bit clueless. I suppose they are referring to the fact that coming into this game Ogando hadn’t lost a game. The Yankees sure showed him who is boss of the Bronx, he gave up 6 runs in 1.2 innings. I would feel sorry for him, but he plays for the wrong team.

After not hitting much on Monday, the Yankee bats were really hot on Tuesday, Swisher, Granderson (hey Jose, Curtis says HI [stolen from @The_Stace]) and Cano. Curtis is now tied with Jose for most home runs. Gardner stole his 14th base of the season.

CC pitched and gave up 4 runs in 7 innings, not a problem with the twelve runs the Yankees scored (part of me wonders if A.J. is making a CC doll, just out of jealousy, or maybe putting ex-lax in his cocoa puffs?, Nah ….. ). There is a problem with me typing all my posts on one day, my thoughts just all run together and the games start to mesh, not to mention I am watching the encore showing of the current days game so things could get a little confusing, just bear with me. Ayala and Pendleton pitched scoreless innings, no Mo, these guys are just hitting to many runs.

And Texas likes to hit our batters too, I didn’t realize it was open season on baseball players.

Yankees decide to place Jeter on DL
Martin remains out with stiff back
Nunez ready to fill in while Jeter is out

I’m going to name my next child Nova ~ May 6

No not really, first some notes: Eric Chavez ‘irritated an old fracture’ in his foot and has been put on the D.L. Ramiro Pena has been called up from the Minor Leagues to fill his spot in the roster. I like Pena, he isn’t a power hitter but he has pretty good defensive skills in the infield.

Nick Swisher was scratched from the line-up with a cold, Andruw Jones replaced him in right field.

The Yankees claimed right-handed pitcher Jess Todd off waivers from the Indians on Friday and DFA’d Kevin Russo. Who is Jess Todd? I dunno, we shall see.

The Yankees longest losing streak this season has been 3 games. How sweet is that?

~~Yankees 4, Rangers 1~~

So how good was Nova? Freaking good. So good that if my mom calls again when he’s pitching I’m not answering the phone. I know, I am the worst daughter ever, that has never been questioned.

His numbers are stellar, 7.1 innings pitched, 2 hits and 1 run, but they don’t tell the whole story. They don’t tell how comfortable he looks on the mound, how Russell says its a dream to catch for him cause he doesn’t get hurt, how his fellow pitchers, congratulate him in the dugout. If this pitching performance had been at Yankee stadium, we would have been on our feet “NOVA! NOVA!” Rafael did not give up the lead and Mariano picked up his 12th save of the season.

Defensively the boys were on their toes. Cano to Teixeira, Jeter to Teixeira. A sweet double play to end the inning, which I MISSED! Thank you mom. Mark Teixeira got the ‘Defensive Play of the Game’ for snagging a hard hit line drive.

Also missed was Curtis’ second home run on the game, his first went 433, I didn’t hear how long the second one was because I was ON THE PHONE. He has now hit 10 home runs this season which puts him in first place, ahead of that evil Jose Bautista.

Some random thoughts

~~Yankees 6, Rangers 5~~

No sweep so no broom, but they did win the series so, ……

Cano, Martin and Granderson each hit a home run for a total of 5 runs.

Alex didn’t play, back soreness. Chavez played 3rd base and brought in the winning run. If this starts the “See we can win without Alex” comments, I’m gonna slap a bitch.

C.C. has an ERA of 2.52 and no wins (maybe he’ll win the Cy Young this year!), Joba blew the save, Rafael got the win and Mo picked up his 7th save of the year.

Russell Martin and Eric Chavez are CUTE!!!! ๐Ÿ˜›

As cute as they are, they are yards away from being as cute as my sweet Nickyโ™ก who even looks cute doing the claw.

The Yankees did not win this series as revenge on the Rangers for the ALCS, they did this to teach an inferior team that even if you have claw and antlers, you are not boss of the Bronx. In short this was an old fashioned Bronx beat down. Yankee style.

In case you missed this last August, here’s a repeat.
