Walking on Broadway

After watching the game at the bar on July 1st, I wanted to go get my earring replaced, the post was getting too long. So I started walking up Broadway, I looked around and realized I was at the spot where Kasey and I watched last years parade. I also realized I was walking the wrong way.

Turned around and saw this:

Ok, I really saw another one, after all its not just limited to Yankees, its any NY team that wins a championship.

Spaced every so often, baseball, football, Olympic athletes.

These are the games from the Core Four, Andy Pettitte, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter. 4 World Series in 5 years.

And then a dry spell, not the longest in their history

And there is room for more.

4/13 New York Yankees 7 vs Los Angeles Angels 5

I was at the game. It was a pretty special occasion. I saw the ring ceremony and wondered why they didn’t call Matsui up, I looked at the table and there was a box still on the table, then the announcer said there was one more ring to hand out. Matsui came out to a standing ovation and chants of ‘MVP, MVP’. Yes I was one of the ones shouting that. His first at bat there were cheers from the crowd and more chanting. Then Andy struck him out. His next at bat there was cheering but no chanting, and no booing for any of his at bats.

There is more I had to say, including a comment Kasey wanted me to make, it will have to wait. I have to go get some sleep now. In the meantime, check out the headlines from Yankees.com.

So much for …

my thought that I wouldn’t be blogging here until baseball started again. I mean I have another blog for non-baseball things so I don’t need to blog them here. But things keep happening.

I ordered a 2009 World Series Patch. Actually I ordered 2, one for Kasey and one for me. She said she is going to put hers on her bulletin board at work, I decided to put mine on my denim jacket instead of my Yankee jacket. Right now it is just stuck on there with the sticky stuff that was on the back, I was going to sew it on, but I don’t have any blue thread. I think the sticky stuff will hold it until I get some thread since I am not going to be wearing it right now, too cold for a thin denim jacket.

The bad and the good

Tigger and I were supposed to go to the city today. Kasey is in Florida visiting her family and I really miss her. So I planned to go to NYC so I wouldn’t miss her that much, and to go to places she doesn’t like to go. I asked Tigger to go with me and he said yes. I have looking forward to this all week. Then this morning he bailed on me. I posted about it on Facebook and we went back and forth. Me trying to make him feel guilty and him trying to convince me he had a good reason. He even said I could have taken Bob or gone by myself, but that is not what I planned and so it would not have been the same!

The good thing about today was I was able to download the 2009 World Series from iTunes and watched Game 6. Game 6 was the game I missed most of because I went to church. The download doesn’t include the post-game, which I like to watch, but the games are commercial free so that is nice.

Canyon of Heroes

That is what they call the route the parade goes. I was there, I was squished there were so many people. It was great!

gal_yankee_parade_18.jpg

This picture is from the NY Daily News website, we walked past this location trying to get where we were wanted to be, which we did not make it, too many people. (Note to self: Next year get to NYC earlier. What do you there might not be a parade next year? I refuse to believe it!)

Of course this is what I saw from my vantage point.

Being only 5 feet tall means that when I held my camera up to get a shot I (a) couldn’t see what I was photographing and (b) since everyone else [who was already taller then me] who put their cameras up to get a shot got in my way. I did however manage to get this shot.

That’s Robinson Cano in case you can’t recognize him and this lovely boy,

Johnny Damon, who just happens to be Sarah’s favorite, so she was happy to have it posted to her facebook wall.
I would have posted this sooner and had more to say about the parade, but I came down with the flu the weekend after so I have not been feeling up to posting. I am also depressed because . . . BASEBALL’s OVER!

World Series Game 6

On my way into work I stopped at Modells and got this. Kind of says it all.

Last night was church so I didn’t get to watch the whole game. I was following it on my phone though. That is how I knew Hideki Matsui was having a good night, Andy Pettitte was also doing good.

But once again my favorite moment (or two) might be thought of as a little odd. During the ninth inning the camera was on Girardi, (I saw this in the clips after the game) and he actually looked relaxed, he was almost smiling, then he did smile and step back into the dugout and the other coaches and him grabbed each other, you just know it was the last out.

And my other moment was when Alex was up on the stage and the announcer asked him if he wanted to ‘take a minute and enjoy the feeling’, and he says ‘Yes.’ and puts his head back, smiles and says, “Feels good!”

Now for some more of my World Series haul.

This is my hoodie, it is like the shirts they were given after the game except its a hoodie.

I got this shirt for Kasey, she prefers the Navy blue. And lastly,

The magnet went on my cabinet at work, the bear came home with me and is going to the parade.

World Series Game 5

Yes I know this is a late entry about game 5. The series is over and Yankees are champions for the 27th time.

I really wanted the Yankees to win this. But A.J. just wasn’t on his game tonight. I just had to post though, because of all the nonsense about bad calls.
The first was when Victorino (?) got hit by a ball, and everyone kept saying A.J. hit him with the ball. Well, I saw the pitch over and over again and when he went to bunt the ball he moved his hand in front of the ball. So I don’t think it was A.J. fault, but he still got blamed for it.
Second was a double play and Yankee runner at second (I don’t remember who) was called out, but the baseman was straddling the bag, he never tagged it.
So I hope no one faults me for being late but I was upset after the game and just didn’t feel like posting. I will be back for the Game 6 post, but I have pictures to include.

World Series Game 4

So I was wrong about Yankees in four, but it might end up being Yankees in five.

The game got off to a good start with Jeter and Damon getting on base, then with Teixeira getting a hit and Derek scoring. Alex got hit by a ball (again!). Despite chants from the crowd, “Yankees suck!’ Posada hit a sacrifice fly and Damon scored, Yankees 2, Phillies 0. Phillies scored so at the ending of the inning, 2-1 Yankees.
Score stayed the same until the fourth inning, thanks in large part to Mark ‘Vacuum Cleaner’ Teixeira. Then the Phillies tied it up, but the runner never tagged home plate. Umpire called him safe though. In the fifth inning Swisher scores, then Cabrera scores, he missed home plate running in, turns around and stepped on the plate. End of the fifth, 4-2 Yankees.
Home runs in the 7th and 8th tied the score 4-4. Then the Yankees battled back, with two outs in the ninth inning Damon got on 1st base. Mark Teixeira was the next at bat, Damon stole second, with the player off the base and no one covering third, he kept running to third base. Then Mark got hit by a ball. So we had runners on 1st and 3rd.
Alex Rodriguez came up to bat, through the TV screen I told him to hit the ball, and he delivered! Damon scored, Mark advanced to third, Alex on second. Then Posada came up and hit a line drive, Mark scored, Alex scored, Posada was tagged out at second. 7-4 Yankees. Mariano came in to close. Yankees 7, Phillies 4. Yankees one win away from World Champions!

Thoughts on Game 3

I like watching the video clips on MLB. Not to see if the umpires made bad calls (cause we already know they do). I just like watching some scenes over and over. Like this one.

gal_wsgame3_41.jpg

I was trying to figure out how Swisher ended up rolling over his head like that. So I just kept watching the video clip until I figured it out. When he slid in, he ended up with his leg over the catcher’s and when the catcher stood up he just rolled Swisher butt over head. It didn’t seem to bother Swisher as he went on to hit a home run later.

World Series Game 3

I realize that my last Game post had some errors in it. So tonight I have attempted to take better notes.

After an hour and 20 minute delay, the game started at 9:15 p.m. Playing in the National League means no designated hitter so Pettitte was on the line-up or roster or whatever you call it. But he used to play in the National League so he does have some experience hitting.
Second inning Andy seemed to lose it a little. Phillies player Werth got a home run, then with the bases loaded he walked a batter for a score of 2-0 Phillies. Then the Phillies pitcher bunted and for a sacrifice and the Phillies got another run, 3-0 Phillies.
Inning number 4 was the turning point for the Yankees with a hit by Alex that was ruled a double, then after review by the umpires was ruled a home run. 2 runs scored. Then in the fifth was Pettitte’s second at bat and he hit a fly to center field that allowed Swisher to score. Johnny Damon also hit a line drive to center field and Pettitte and Jeter scored. 5-3 Yankees.
In the sixth inning both teams got home runs. Swisher got the homer for the Yankees. Kasey said she heard that before the game he told Girardi his slump was over. With the Phillies homer score was 6-4 Yankees. Seventh inning had a score by Damon off a single by Posada, Hideki Matsui pinch hit for Joba with a homer and then in the ninth Phillies got another homer. Mariano came in to finish the inning. Final score Yankees 8, Phillies 5.
