Wild Card Champions ~ Next stop the Twins

~~Saturday, October 2, 2010
Yankees 6, Red Sox 5~~

~~Saturday, October 2, 2010
Red Sox 7, Yankees 6~~

It rained all day, the field was to soggy to play. I get that, but I really didn’t want a double header. Double header’s are usually split, and the Yankees really needed to win both games. On to Sunday.

~~Sunday, October 3, 2010
Red Sox 8, Yankees 4~~

As it turned out, the Rays won today, so the Yankees still wouldn’t have won the division if they had won, they needed to win yesterday and today. It’s done, no amount of complaining will change things. So the Yankees play the Twins in Minnesota, brrrr. Hope it’s not too cold for our boys.

My dilemma is, now that the Yankees don’t have home field advantage, my tickets are for Game 4, which if the Yankees sweep will not be played. I really wanted to go to a post season game. I really wanted to rub it in my bosses face. A dish of cold revenge from last year.

Reade Street tweet-up and a postponed game

It was supposed to be a gathering of Yankee fans (met through Twitter) to watch the game. @marciaherold suggested we meet at the bar where she worked, Reade Street Pub & Restaurant, so after my manicure I headed down there and for once I didn’t walk the wrong way. I did however, go out the wrong exit of the subway and so had a long walk to the bar. Along the way I dropped my i-Pod, the nice young lady who yelled at me that I dropped something and picked it up for me, in some eerie coincidence was going to the same place, we looked at each other and laughed.

The game was rained out, the tweet-up was simply incredible. There were some twitter people that I had met before and some I hadn’t. Marcia turned one of the T.V.s to the Rays & Royals game and @tommy_reyes started a “Lets go Royals” chant, “Clap-clap, clap, clap, clap” when they scored a run. He also proposed marriage, (sort-of, I’m told, I kind of missed that), was the leading voice in the roll-call and decided it would be a good idea to have SoCo-Lime shots (someone stole mine). In other words he was having a lot of fun and helping everyone else have fun too.

Besides Marcia, Tommy and me (@Rebel_U), also there was @Stefmara, @SimplySmoov, @amandarykoff, @TheLastJesus, @rebeccapbp, @EJGoose, @ruaalien2, @KelsODonnell, @23yanksgoyard , @JeffreyNYY, @jaydestro, @bkabak, @BNiche and @stevensmithy. All great Yankee (and other sports) fans, give them a look and a follow. If I missed anybody I apologize and I would also like to thank Marcia, I got most of the names from her tweets, since I have such a terrible memory.

Also, this picture was taken by Marcia, if you click on this picture it will take you to her TwitPic account where you can see this picture bigger and also see a picture of the ‘marriage proposal’.

Tied for first place

Someone on twitter said they got tickets for $6 dollars for the ALDS. Someone else asked if she had forgotten a zero. No, she said, “I got the E-Mail, I went online, clicked on $6 tickets and got them.” That inspired me to keep trying. Now I didn’t click on the $6 tickets, those are in the bleachers. Kasey and I prefer the grandstand, so I clicked on the grandstand, no tickets, I went down a level, no tickets. Tried again and it was “Standing room only, limited view”. Pass and I gave up.

This evening I decided to try again, and it went through! Then I couldn’t remember my password for ticketmaster. So I lost the tickets. After I reset my password I tried again and it went through again! The same seats as the first time. So I purchased them and it looks like I am going to my first ever post season game.

homefield advantage desiredHowever, I may have messed up in the day I picked, I might end up not being able to go, if the Yankees start at home there is no problem, if they start away and then skip a day, it could be a problem. So I quickly went to check the scoreboard and Tampa Bay lost. So we are tied for first place! So now the Yankees just have sweep Boston or Tampa Bay needs to keep losing.

Tuesday, September 28, 2010 ~ And they’re off!

~~Yankees 6, Blue Jays 1~~

With this win the Yankees are going to the post season. They haven’t won the division, but they also are not out of it yet. They lost today (Wednesday, September 29, 2010; Blue Jays 8, Yankees 4) but so did Tampa.

C.C. gave up one home run, pitched 111 pitches, into the 9th inning. Then Mo came in to end the game.

Happy DancingThis was my mood when I came into work today, and it stayed my mood until I talked to my boss, “Mr. Gloom & Doom” “Mr. Joy Sucker” who started saying how, “With the way they are playing they won’t make it past the first round ~~blah blah blah~~.” Oh just shut up, why can’t he just let me be happy for a while? Then he wonders why I don’t go out to lunch or to get a beer with him like the boss before him. So he’s stupid, I get it. And now that the Yankees lost tonight, I don’t know if I even want to go to work tomorrow. I might just kill him.

Tonight’s game wasn’t a total loss, as I said, Tampa Bay also lost so we are still in the running for the Division title. Alex Rodriguez hit his 30th homer of the season. The 14th time in his Major League career he has had at least 30 homers and 100 RBIs, which extends his record. It is the 13th consecutive season in which Rodriguez has hit 30 homers. Last season was much more dramatic, hitting a grand slam in his very last at bat. Ah well. Proof that Alex is becoming less of a drama queen.

Sunday, September 26, 2010 ~ A win is a win is a win

~~Yankees 4, Red Sox 3~~

Bottom of the tenth inning of a tied game with the bases loaded. And he walked him, so the last run was walked in. I for one do not care, it’s a win for us and a loss for them no matter how the winning runner was able to cross the plate.

The best way to watch the games when they are on ESPN is muted. So that’s what I did. Actually I was watching video’s on my laptop with the game on my T.V. I was paying attention to what was going on. In the 7th inning I glanced up and saw Alex coming up to the play and thought, he looks like he’s ready to hit a home run. The next time I looked up, 2 run home run by Alex Rodriguez. #612 to go ahead of the Red Sox. By the 9th they were up a run and Robinson brought in the tying run. Then with the bases loaded, Red Sox shut us down. In the 10th when the bases got loaded, Juan Miranda came up to bat and … walked.

Phil Hughes pitched instead of Moseley, I mean, when you definitely want a win who would you go with? Unfortunately he didn’t get credit for the win, but he knows he pitched well and so does everyone else. The other thing that helped was I went to take a shower in the 10th inning. Those boys (for as much as i love my boys, they like to do great things when I’m not watching) scored the winning run before I got back. I also posted my little pep talk earlier in the day. While I know they probably (definitely) don’t read it, it is therapeutic to write it.

In other news, the Tampa Bay Rays lost to the Seattle Mariners. For the Red Sox to get the Wild Card instead of the Yankees, they would have to win every game and the Yankees would have to lose every game. I like those odds.

Sunday, September 26, 2010 ~ Yankees vs. Red Sox

As you probably know by now, if you’re a baseball fan you would have to have been living in a cave not to know, the Yankees are out of first place, 1.5 games behind Tampa Bay. Having lost the last two games to the Red Sox, they are now creeping up on the Yankees and the wild card spot.

It would be foolish of me to say I’m not worried, indeed I am a little worried. But I am a fan, and I know in my that the Yankees are going to the post season.

If I could send a message to the Yankees it would be, “Your loyal fans believe in you, have faith in you, go out tonight and win this game and make us all happy. If you lose tonight, we will be sad, but still fans. The reasonable ones among us realize it will not be the end of the season.”

Next week, Monday through Thursday, I’m also going to be rooting for the Orioles and White Sox. Just in case. 😉

Tuesday, September 21, 2010 ~ That’s two down

~~Yankees 8, Rays 3~~

Monday’s game we sat in the bleachers, where I got to see @baldvinny in person, not exactly close up and in person, and I did hear him first. Roll call is fun, but I am not really cut out for the bleachers, more of a princess then a creature. 😛

Tonight we sat in the grandstand, looking down on 1st base and just off to the right, Nick Swisher’s domain. Next to an old man and a young man, looked like grandson and grandfather but I didn’t ask. A nice but rather opinionated man. Swisher started things off with a bang, (insert puffy heart here) for an exciting first inning and the Yankees started the game with 5 runs.

The man behind us was also rather opinionated, kept criticizing Girardi every chance he got. I told Kasey, he must be a Torre fan. I won’t say I hate Torre, but I definitely don’t like him. He wasn’t all bad, he did get the security person to get the two kids blocking everybody’s view to sit down (people, if you are going to bring your kids to game, teach them how to behave, such as, sit in your seat, don’t stand at the bottom of the stairs and block other fans views and most importantly, the wave is not to be done at Yankee Stadium).

Phil gave up 3 runs in 6.1 innings getting his 17th win, Javier pitched a scoreless inning and Chamberlain got the save. Some people (commenters on the MLB site) were complaining about Javier being brought in to pitch. Even now there are Javy haters. I know that I have made no secret of the fact that I don’t like Joba, but its purely a personal thing, when he pitches good, I can’t complain.

This time, when Kasey and I went down to the great hall, she turned to me and said, “Tonight we don’t leave until Frank starts to sing.” I had a momentary heart attack when Jorge went down, he got hit with a foul ball, we were ready to go back and punch Evan Longoria, but he turned and put his hand on Jorge’s head as if to say, “You O.K. there?” Of course he’s not O.K.! He just got hit in the groin! I think every man there cringed, I cringed, that’s a sensitive spot on girls too. But he got back up and finished the inning. Game over, Yankees win.

Monday, September 20, 2010 ~ How many times have I said . . .

~~Yankees 8, Rays 6~~

Never leave until after the out. We were watching the ninth inning in the great hall (yes we are one of those people), and saw Cervalli catch the pop-up foul. My friends said ‘thats it!’ and walked out the gate, I was lagging behind (I’m a little slowpoke), wondering why they weren’t playing Frank and why was the crowd not happy? Wasn’t hard to find out why, the ball touched the screen before Frankie caught it.

Kasey & friends were outside and turned to look at me and I told them that the game wasn’t over. Kasey said, ‘stupid umpire’ yes there was a foul ball called fair resulting in a base hit. Security wouldn’t let them back in, which I thought was kind of silly, but rules are rules. So I watched from inside the great hall and they watched from the doorway as Mark made the last out and Frank started to sing.

Sunday, September 19, 2010 ~ So Mo is human after all

~~Orioles 4, Yankees 3~~

Andy’s first start off the D.L. and he didn’t do bad, his line was 6 I.P., 3 hits, 1 run, 1 B.B., 2 S.O., 2.81 E.R.A. The 1 run was in the first inning, then Yankees went ahead 2 runs, by the 9th inning their lead was cut by one. Then in the 9th, the Orioles tied up the score with a home run off of Mo. Then in the 11th inning the Orioles got the winning run. A walk-off for the ugly orange birds.
