And another headline for the ages

“G-men push Yankees past O’s in series finale”

~~ Yankees 4, Orioles 2 ~~

No I did not make that up, it is copied straight from MLB.com, seriously who comes up with this? I get it, Freddy Garcia pitched 6 solid innings only giving up 2 runs, Gardner had a base clearing triple, but really “G-men”? That deserves a “SMH”.

The problem I have with headlines like that is it makes it seem like the whole game was on their shoulders, and while yes, Gardner had 3 of the 4 RBI, he wasn’t the only player out there, and Garcia only pitched 6 innings, there were 3 other pitchers that held the O’s to 2 runs. So lets give Hector, Dave, and Mo credit where it is due for doing their part.

Supporting Freddy with runs ~ Monday, July 25, 2011

~~ Yankees 10, Mariners 3 ~~

I’ve been a little busy lately, I am in the middle of moving and having to suffer with watching with people which annoys me. Please forgive me while I just give brief recaps. Once this move is complete, I will do better.

Garcia pitched, and as you can tell from the score, he got plenty of run support including a 2-run home run by Mark Teixeira and one by Derek Jeter. Logan and Garrison followed up with scoreless outings.

Ballgame over, Yankees win.

Back in Form ~ Wednesday, July 20, 2011

~~ Yankees 4, Rays 0 ~~

To all the haters and naysayers and band wagon fans, the ones saying it was time to let Freddy go (after one bad start) take a look at the score, take a look at 7 strike-outs and 0 walks. Did you hear me? 0 walks. No doubt about who won this pitchers duel. Logan and
Robertson did their part and Mo, sorry Mo not a save situation.

That reminds me, hey Joe? You already have an 8th inning guy, the perfect set-up man, the bridge to Mo, dare I say, the next great closer (maybe not great yet), maybe Soriano can fold towels.

The pitchers did get a little help from Curtis Granderson and Eduardo Nunez who each had 2 RBI’s.

All in all a good game.

A better game? ~ Friday, July 15, 2011

~~ Blue Jays 7, Yankees 1 ~~

After all Yankees only lost by 6 runs. Oh give me a break, I know its unacceptable. Kind of like waxing your beard or head. I just saw that on TruTV. Defense was a little better this game, but the offense stank and Garcia was not his usual self. I still maintain the boys need fresh air, real grass and dirt.

Wade came in for the 6th and 7th innings, the Sergio (again! Hopefully Joe is doing this to wear out his arm so he can’t pitch.

CC pitches Saturday. That will stop the bleeding.

It’s going to happen ~ Sunday, July 3, 2011

~~ Mets 3, Yankees 2 ~~

On any given day the worst team in the league can beat the best team in the league. The best team is the Yankees and …. o.k. Mets aren’t the worst team (that would be the Houston Astros), but you get my point.

Garcia pitched with his usual skill, going into the bottom of the ninth, Mariano has his 4th blown save of the year. Thanks to an error by Pena, Mets won.

Don’t knock on Pena, he’s young, the ball was hit hard and who else did the Yankees have to play short stop? Jeter and Nunez both unavailable. He made some good plays earlier in the game.

Before everyone gets all crazy about the Yankees losing,

  1. They didn’t sweep but did win the series.
  2. Yankees are still in first place, 1.5 games ahead of the Red Sox in the American League East
  3. Win or lose, the Yankees are still a better team then the ever-loving Mets.
  4. Mets: My Entire Team Sucks

Zack Greinke in New York ~ Tuesday, June 28, 2011

~~ Yankees 12, Brewers 2 ~~

Michael Kay said that Greinke doesn’t like performing in front of crowds and doesn’t like the media attention. From his performance I think Kay is right. After 2 innings and 56 pitches he was pulled. He also gave up 7 runs, of which 7 were earned. He also walked 3. If this is how he pitches in New York, it seems the Yankees were right to say no thanks to Greinke.

The Brewers actually got more hits then the Yankees. I guess Yankees defense is just better. Freddy one time said that he always pitches like its a one run game. He did so tonight holding the Brewers to two runs even with the Yankees having 7 runs on the board. Yankees then went on to get 5 more runs. Noesi and Wade also pitched scoreless innings.

Nick Swisher hit a 3 run home run. Mark Teixeira hit a 2 run home run, his 24th of the season, putting him in first place in the American League.

In my continuing discussion of Interleague play, I never thought of this but Interleague play is also hard on the National League teams. They have to pull a player to D.H. and that puts them at a disadvantage. Girardi says the 9 games of Interleague play in a row can cripple a team. Here’s a thought, forget about where they are playing, National League teams play with their rules and American League teams play with their rules. Neither team will be at a disadvantage since they will both be playing the way they are used to playing.

Game 1 ~ Wednesday, June 22, 2011

~~ Yankees 4, Reds 2 ~~

Since last nights game was cancelled due to thunderstorms, today the Yankees and Reds had a double-header. Twice as much fun. The teams were given the choice of playing today and tomorrow, or two games today. The players chose two games today. Makes sense to me, this way they have all day tomorrow to rest. Friday the Yankees play the Rockies in the Bronx. Yankees won the day game.

Freddy Garcia pitched well holding the Reds to 2 runs. David Robertson pitched a scoreless 8th inning and Mariano got his 19th save of the season.

Posada hit a two run home run in the 7th putting the Yankees ahead and securing the win for Garcia who now has 6 wins.

Sometime during the day Kasey sent me a text, “Quick, do you want to go to Sunday’s game with Sarah? It’s old timer’s day.” Since I was planning on going to the city with Sarah on Sunday anyway, I said sure. One of the teacher’s has bleacher seats. I think the seats are 6 rows behind the dugout. If you hear about someone hanging over the wall waving and yelling, “HI MO!!” …..

Missing, Yankee bats ~ Friday, June 17, 2011

~~ Cubs 3, Yankees 1 ~~

Sometimes day games are rough, because I can’t watch them. Sometimes I don’t mind that I don’t get to see them. Today all I missed was seeing the Yankees NOT hit the ball. Freddy Garcia giving up 3 runs early and settling down, but the Yankees didn’t score any runs until the 8th and it was only one.

Disappointing game. Against the Cubbies.

Yanks, Garcia topped in Wrigley opener

Boston versus New York ~ Tuesday, June 7, 2011

~~ Red Sox 6, Yankees 4 ~~

Words cannot describe how much I despise Jon Lester, I know since he is a Red Sox pitcher it goes without saying that I don’t like him, but my feelings go beyond that, I hate, loathe and despise him. Jon Lester is a thug, a bully, a jerk and ugly. Now that I’ve unburdened myself, he hit Mark on the knee (could have broken his kneecap!) in the first inning, putting him out of the game. In the same inning he hit Russell Martin. His ninth hit batter of the season, his career total is 38 hit batters. I don’t know why he wasn’t taken out of the game. He blamed it on his ‘cut fastball’, batters don’t know its going to cut in so they don’t get out of the way. Here’s a thought, don’t throw the ball at their knees!

On another note, my streak is intact, what streak is that you ask? Every game I’ve gone to that was Yankees vs. Boston, Boston has won. **hangs head** 😦

Garcia got hit hard first inning, Ellsbury hit a home run, and Garcia was pulled in the second inning. He was disappointed that he was pulled so early. Ayala came in for 1 and a third inning. Then Noesi the hero of the extra innings Baltimore game came in for the last 6 innings. He also got hit, this time by Ortiz with one man on. I don’t really hate Ortiz, like I hate some other Red Sox, I would just like to reach out and slap that fat, ugly, smug, bastard in his fat face. Just for being smug.

Jorge came in for Mark, pitch ran then played first. He did alright, got 3 hits (breaking his hitless streak against lefties {take that Jon Lester}), he must hate Jon Lester too.

Yankees came back, but not enough. I stayed to the end, watched Puppybone strike out Alex and do his fist pump. BOO! Red Sox may have won, but they are still ugly. Sorry that’s all I got.

Yankee starters saving the bullpen ~ May 31

~~ Yankees 10, Athletics 3 ~~

Monday Colon saved the bullpen by pitching a complete game. Tuesday Freddy Garcia did it by pitching 7 innings. They weren’t scoreless, but he only gave up 3 runs.

The Yankees started off with Granderson hitting a 2 run home run in the first inning. They didn’t have any big innings, just kept scoring runs, Cano hit a 2 run home run in the fifth. The Yankees are really raising the era’s of the A’s pitchers.

Tomorrow A.J. pitches, Yankees won the series, we are going for the sweep!
