A win, yes a win

~~ Yankees 6, Angels 5 ~~

Another win by one run, but this time it was the Yankees. In this game the Yankees didn’t have Martin or Cervelli so the catchers were the rookie Jesus and the other rookie Austin. They didn’t have A-Rod because of his thumb, or Swisher because of his elbow. Am I missing anyone?

What they did have was home runs by Cano and Granderson, a sacrifice fly by Mark Teixeira and a long fly ball that bounced out of the glove of Peter Bourjos allowing the Yankees to take the lead. And this time the bull pen did not cough, they held steady. Wade, Soriano, Robertson and Rivera picked up save no. 40, just two away from tying Trevor Hoffman.

Poor Frankie

Spring training has not been good for Francisco Cervelli. He fouled a ball off his foot and now is in a walking boot for the next four weeks.

So now the job of back-up catcher to Russell Martin appears to be a contest between Jesus Montero and Austin Romine. Both are young, but talented. One person we don’t expect to see behind the plate is Jorge Posada.

Of course this development lead to a lot of jokes on Twitter. “Jesus could have healed Cervelli’s foot with a touch, but he was too busy penciling himself into the lineup” and “Jorge Posada showed up in the clubhouse in full catcher’s gear, when the guys looked at him he said “What?” Those are two I remember, I said, “Cervelli fractured his foot, tough break for the Cisco Kid.” Yes I know, let the groans begin.
