Phil Hughes doesn’t have thoracic outlet syndrome, so the Yankees don’t have to worry about him having a 12-hour surgery and possibly missing the rest of the season. They do have to figure out what is wrong so they can get him back to pitching. When he went on the D.L. his ERA was a heart stopping 13.94.
Robinson Cano is out day to day with a bruised palm. Eduardo Nunez played second base, and despite the fact that he is an exciting player, he is not Robinson Cano, not even close. He doesn’t have that sweet swing, he doesn’t have 21 RBI’s, 8 HR or 32 hits this season. O.K., he hasn’t played that much, but in two plays he had the ball and was looking around like he didn’t know what to do with it. Very un-Cano like.

Thanks for this win can go to Bartolo Colon who pitched 7 innings and if it hadn’t been for a couple of home runs, would have had a much easier time of it. However, he doesn’t seem to let it bother him, watches the ball go into the seats, then turns around and gets the next batter out. Both home runs were solo shots, he wasn’t letting people get on base and then giving up home runs.
We can also thank Mark for getting on base (so he was walked, he didn’t strike out), Alex for the single that moved Mark to 3rd and Nick Swisher for that liner to central field that allowed Mark to slide and score the winning run. When the umpire called him safe, he got up and double fist pumped. As did Swisher at first, a fist pump, a little dance. All good. Then with Russell batting a wild pitch allowed Alex to come in and score. I suppose we can also thank Valverde for staggering around the mound like he was drunk in the ninth and Verlander for his 30 pitch first inning.
Although I think booing is rude, I would like to boo Santiago, Cabrera (Yankee killer) and Avila. See you boys tomorrow, don’t forget the lessons you learned tonight.
