As I catch up on my other posts, I will be coming here with game high-lights, as they happen.

Nova belongs in the majors, yes or no? {{YES}}

~~ Yankees 7, White Sox 2 ~~

Of course that is just my opinion, which doesn’t count for much, but he held the White Sox to 1 run over 7.2 innings, Robertson came in for the rest of the inning, I don’t remember why, maybe just for work, Noesi gave up a home run, then just turned around and got the last batter out. This was after Martin padded the Yankees lead with a 3 run home run.

It still remains to be determined what will happen to Nova, of course one wonders why they can’t just ship A.J. out and keep Phil and Nova, but I don’t think that will happen.

Winning in spite of ….

~~ Yankees 18, White Sox 7 ~~

No I won’t go there, I have always defended A.J., always looked for the good, and this is how he repays me! 13 run lead and he went from being a pitcher, to throwing batting practice. I saw this before, with the Blue Jays, that time there wasn’t a lead to give up and the Yankees lost, this time, Joe pulled him after 4.1 innings and put in Cory Wade. AJ was mad, didn’t wait for Joe, walked off the mound and pulled his jersey off as he went into the tunnel. Cory got the win, Ayala and Soriano pitched scoreless. So much for blaming A.J. previous loses on no run support. He could not complain about no run support here! This just makes me mad, and I don’t like to get mad at any of the Yankees. Especially one I defended in the past.

The Yankees are a history making team

~~ Yankees 6, White Sox 0 ~~

After a rain delay, with no rain, all eyes were on Phil Hughes. To say he pitched good is an understatement. It wasn’t a no-hitter but it was a shut out. His line: 6 IP, 3 H, no runs, no errors, 4 K’s, his ERA is inching its way down to 6.93, then the rain came down. So Phil pitched a complete game.

While everyone’s attention was focused on Phil, Russell snuck in with a home run and Mark set a new MLB record by homering from both sides of the plate for the 12th time in his career.

And another headline for the ages

“G-men push Yankees past O’s in series finale”

~~ Yankees 4, Orioles 2 ~~

No I did not make that up, it is copied straight from MLB.com, seriously who comes up with this? I get it, Freddy Garcia pitched 6 solid innings only giving up 2 runs, Gardner had a base clearing triple, but really “G-men”? That deserves a “SMH”.

The problem I have with headlines like that is it makes it seem like the whole game was on their shoulders, and while yes, Gardner had 3 of the 4 RBI, he wasn’t the only player out there, and Garcia only pitched 6 innings, there were 3 other pitchers that held the O’s to 2 runs. So lets give Hector, Dave, and Mo credit where it is due for doing their part.

Double Header ~ Game 2 ~ Saturday, July 30, 2011

~~ Yankees 17, Orioles 3 ~~

Of the 17 runs scored in this game, 12 were in the first innings. The Yankees set a franchise record in this game, they have never scored 12 in the first inning before. This was also the second game of a double header. Yeah, they were supposed to lose this game. I guess they didn’t get the memo.

Despite having a (to start) 12 run lead, Nova pitched like the game depended on every pitch he threw only giving up 2 runs, Ayala gave up one and Soriano, fresh from the D.L. pitched a scoreless 9th.

Cano went 5 for 5, Swisher and Jones went deep. It was kind of fun keeping track of all those runs.

Double Header ~ Game 1 ~ Saturday, July 30, 2011

~~ Yankees 8, Orioles 3 ~~

This is what we like to see, Colon pitching, Nick hitting home runs, Yankees stealing bases and making errors! Wait, what? Sorry Nunez. And I would like to introduce to you the Yankees new closer, Boone Logan! That last bit was a joke. No closer needed for this game.

Just the Orioles ~ Friday, July 29, 2011

~~ Orioles 4, Yankees 2 ~~

beating the Yankees 4 to 2. I know I am seriously behind here, besides moving I got sick. I am determined to not move from this couch until this blog is up to date. I should probably go pee before I start typing …

Despite Teixeira hitting a home run, it was a solo shot, and A.J. pitching 8 solid innings, the Yankees lost this game. Tomorrow is a double header. I was planning on going but my furniture is being delivered to the new apartment. Perhaps I should say, it was delivered, but my T.V. was working, cable was hooked up so I watched it, but I am getting ahead of myself.
