The Mariners have King Felix ~ Wednesday, July 27, 2011

~~ Mariners 9, Yankees 2 ~~

Tonight the Yankees had Phil Hughes. Unfortunately, things didn’t go the Yankees way tonight. I have read some things on Twitter about how “Hughesssss-less” he is, but is you look at his line, he was effective just had no run support and the bull pen, “coughed up the lead”. Phil had two runs charged to him in 6 innings. Noesi gave up 2 runs in one inning, yet all I hear is how bad Phil is and how good everyone else is (except of course Mitre). Even if they had been held to 2 runs, the game would have been tied since our bats were just sticks of wood tonight.

The big man takes the mound ~ Tuesday, July 26, 2011

~~ Yankees 4, Mariners 1 ~~

Sabathia picks up win number 15, his ERA goes down to 2.56, Robertson holds the game and Mariano gets save number 26.

Hitting home runs in this game were Granderson and Teixeira. Not as many runs scored tonight, but it was enough.

Supporting Freddy with runs ~ Monday, July 25, 2011

~~ Yankees 10, Mariners 3 ~~

I’ve been a little busy lately, I am in the middle of moving and having to suffer with watching with people which annoys me. Please forgive me while I just give brief recaps. Once this move is complete, I will do better.

Garcia pitched, and as you can tell from the score, he got plenty of run support including a 2-run home run by Mark Teixeira and one by Derek Jeter. Logan and Garrison followed up with scoreless outings.

Ballgame over, Yankees win.

Granderson is grand (Russell Martin is pretty hot too) ~ Sunday, July 24, 2011

~~ Yankees 7, Athletics 5 ~~

It’s a corny title but I couldn’t resist. I have to say Curtis Granderson is good at playing baseball. He can hit home runs (27), he can run down a long fly ball and make spectacular throws to home plate. Of course Martin was there to catch the ball and tag the runner.

Russell Martin is also good at baseball. He throws out base runners, and he steals bases.

Hideki Matsui had a perfect night, he went 5 for 5 but Colon only gave up 2 runs in 7 innings. Dave and Mo decided to make things interesting. Kasey never should have told him about her blood pressure. Or maybe Dave just wanted Mo to get his 25th save. We know Mo just likes to play head games with the other batters.

Run limits ~ Saturday, July 23, 2011

~~ Athletics 4, Yankees 3 ~~

Each team in the MLB has a set number of runs they are allowed to score in a series. The amount varies to some degree but it applies to each team. I don’t know the exact number, but I do know these limits exist.

When the Yankees scored 17 runs the other night they got a call from Bud reminding them that if they went over their run limit there would be repercussions. Because of that coming into this game the Yankees were afraid to hit the ball. Oakland on the other hand was nowhere near their run limit so they could pound away at the ball. These run limits are the reason Oakland was able to break their 11 game losing streak against the Yankees and why Josh Willingham and Hideki Matsui weren’t afraid to hit homers.

Some of you may be thinking you’ve never heard of ‘run limits’, didn’t you see how Nick Swisher was scolded after he homered? Trust me, they exist.

If they don’t then it means that the Yankees don’t like AJ and that is just not true. I think.

Fun or boring game? ~ Friday, July 22, 2011

~~ Yankees 17, Athletics 7 ~~

Some people think blowouts are fun, they like seeing their team win by 10 or 20 runs, some people say they are boring. Apparently Phil Hughes thinks they are boring since he let the A’s score 7 runs. Hector Noesi apparently thinks they’re fun since he held them to the seven runs they already had and picked up his second win, his record is now 2-0 with a 2.91 ERA. As bad as Phil was today, he was better then Trevor Cahill, who doesn’t have a bad ERA, just seems to fall apart against the Yankees. He pitched 2 innings, gave up 9 hits, 10 runs, walked 2, had two stolen bases and watched two balls make it into the seats, one with the bases loaded.

Nick and Mark hit the home runs, Nick’s was a 3 run, Mark’s a grand slam and the following players all joined the party. Nunez, Gardner, Jeter (3), Granderson (2), Swisher (5), Teixeira (4), Laird. Laird just got called up, his first major league hit was also a major league RBI.

What camp do I fall in with regards to high scoring games? If it’s the Yankees batting around, fun fun fun!!

Sadness :'( ~ Thursday, July 21, 2011

~~ Rays 2, Yankees 1 ~~

We are so used to winning with CC, that when it doesn’t happen, I get sad. However Robbie says we need to forget this game and move forward, get ready to tomorrow’s game.

The boys are coming home, back to the stadium that they know to play the A’s, the Mariners and the Orioles. Here’s hoping the Yankees win all three series and the Red Sox lose their next three.

Back in Form ~ Wednesday, July 20, 2011

~~ Yankees 4, Rays 0 ~~

To all the haters and naysayers and band wagon fans, the ones saying it was time to let Freddy go (after one bad start) take a look at the score, take a look at 7 strike-outs and 0 walks. Did you hear me? 0 walks. No doubt about who won this pitchers duel. Logan and
Robertson did their part and Mo, sorry Mo not a save situation.

That reminds me, hey Joe? You already have an 8th inning guy, the perfect set-up man, the bridge to Mo, dare I say, the next great closer (maybe not great yet), maybe Soriano can fold towels.

The pitchers did get a little help from Curtis Granderson and Eduardo Nunez who each had 2 RBI’s.

All in all a good game.

On the other hand ~ Tuesday, July 19, 2011

~~ Rays 3, Yankees 2 ~~

Sometimes a pitcher does everything right …. o.k., maybe not everything, but Bartolo deserved a win! And they couldn’t give it to him. All they gave him was a couple of errors in the 7th inning. With two men on base Granderson lost the ball in the ceiling (who in their right mind would paint the ceiling of a baseball stadium the same color as the ball?) Then Logan didn’t catch a come backer (ball bounces funny on fake grass). Then a sacrifice fly got the 3rd run in and Granderson’s throw was off (the boys are not used to playing baseball indoors). While it may sound like I am making excuses for the team …. (of COURSE I’m making excuses, I’m a fan! There is nothing objective about this blog, check out the title).

It wasn’t really fair of me to say the team gave Bartolo nothing but errors, Robbie did hit a two run home run. Yay for Robbie. It wasn’t enough.

Just in case I didn’t make it clear, I hate the Trop, baseball was meant to be played outdoors, in the elements on real grass and real dirt.

Another win, for D-Rob ~ Monday, July 18, 2011

~~ Yankees 5, Rays 4 ~~

I can’t remember the last time I watched a whole game. Either because I got home late or had something to do, or had to go upstairs and got aggravated with my friend. Today didn’t break my streak but I don’t remember now why. So I followed on Twitter and MLB at bat 11.

A.J. struggled tonight, he managed to keep the Rays to 4 runs, but he walked 6. That’s more than he struck out. Fortunately, he stopped giving up runs at 4 and our relievers Noesi and Robertson (High socks got it done!) kept them at 4 runs. And Mo got save number 24, after the Rays pitcher walked Martin to bring in the winning run.

Pena awoke Monday morning — the day he turned 26 — with severe stomach pains and was taken to the hospital. The result was appendicitis, which prompted doctors to remove his appendix and forced Pena to go on the disabled list prior to the start of a four-game series against the Rays at Tropicana Field.
