5/12 NY Yankees 8 @ Detroit Tigers 0

Well no sweep, so no dancing broom, but Yankees turned things around on Detroit. A run in the first then in the third, then nothing until the 9th. If the Yankees had done this earlier, Javier would have been able to add a win to his stats. Well, he said for him it was a step forward even if it was a loss for the team. Pitchers tonight were Hughes, Chamberlain and Rivera. It wasn’t a ‘save’ situation, with the score being 8-0, but Rivera hasn’t pitched since April so he needed the work. Not anyone would have know he hadn’t pitched, since he was perfect again.

Coming into the game Phil Hughes was 4-0, 1.69 ERA and now he has 5-0, 1.38 ERA, and Javier Vasquez had an ERA of 9.78, now he is 1-4, 8.10 ERA, so it is improving.

Once again I am befuddled by baseball rules. Derek Jeter got on base in the 9th inning. Bases loaded, “Derek Jeter grounds into a force out, shortstop Ramon Santiago to catcher Alex Avila. … Derek Jeter to 1st.” So he hit the ball, got on base, but its not considered a hit, he is 0-8 in the double header. Sometimes, I think I need to get a book. Can anyone recommend one?
